Senator Richard Blumenthal visits Goodwill of Southern New England

Senator Richard Blumenthal visited Goodwill of Southern New England’s distribution center and Outlet store to celebrate a newly issued grant from the state. The money from the grant will help to fund the expansion of our community re-entry services program.

The Senator went on a tour through the distribution center’s operations, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the efforts to generate revenue for our programs not only through their retail stores but also through their environmentally friendly efforts to reuse and recycle countless items.

“Everyone knows that you can find treasures in Goodwill stores, but the real treasures are all of this organization’s wonderful people.”  -Senator Richard Blumenthal

During a conversation with Sherail Cooper, a recent graduate of our community re-entry program, he got some first-hand information and insight into just how much the grant from his office can change a person’s life. Sherail Cooper had spent the last 25 years in a women’s prison in CT. She was transferred to a women’s halfway house in 2021. Sherail was intrigued with the idea of the re-entry services that Goodwill had to offer. Sherail joined the 5-day workshop on June 28th, 2022, and successfully completed the requirements on July 6th which earned her a position in the retail industry. Sherail has plans to further her education through other Goodwill opportunities.

“Goodwill is providing me with a stepping stone to start my own business in fashion. I would like to own a Rent-A-Gown store similar to that of a men’s tuxedo rental business.”  -Sherail Cooper
